Foreboding federal regulations on livestock
In another exclusive to you, here is my article on an upcoming speaking tour across Saskatchewan. If you go to the one in Moose Jaw tomorrow evening you will see me there. Beneath this exclusive are more links to my latest articles. One is a short bio of the “tortured soul” who invented drag time story hour in 2015. It’s an untold, yet telling story.

Guelph profs tour Sask to warn of pending federal livestock legislation
“Farmers are about to be mandated that they must genetically modify their animals through new vaccines,” event promoters claim.
Two University of Guelph professors will tour Saskatchewan to warn of potential federal legislation and have raised controversy before their arrival.
Dr. Bonnie Mallard and Dr. Niel Karrow will speak to at least six communities starting June 25. Mallard is a professor of immunogenetics in the Department of Pathobiology at the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph. Karrow is a professor at the same college who focuses on immunoregulation, immunotoxicology, and immunogenetics of livestock species.
The professors are being brought in under the auspices of Living Streams Institute, a school headquartered in Saskatchewan. The advertisement for the event reads as follows.
“The federal government is hearing proposed legislation that discusses phasing out certain species of livestock, calls for the government to develop commercial production of alternative proteins (bugs, fake meat), and sets up conditions where untested genetic modification of livestock occurs that will affect your milk, eggs, and meat sources...
“Farmers are about to be mandated that they must genetically modify their animals through new vaccines in order to sell their production and stay in business. The experts will tell us about the risk this is to livestock and the lack of testing.”
The ad suggests the alleged legislation would benefit large corporations to the compromise of consumers’ health.
“Australia has already mandated this, and as a major low cost producer of dried milk powder to the international market, many of our processed foods will carry these reactive genetic compounds in them sometime this fall,” the ad explained.
“It seems to be a concerted effort to give large corporations control of our food supply. The government has opened up the flood gates allowing untested genetic modifications to be commercialized without testing, yet last week they passed regulations that make dietary supplements basically illegal without vast amounts of research and licensing (subject to $5 million/ day fines and 3 years in jail).”
The tour begins June 25 in Moose Jaw and wraps up June 28. However, J. Scott Weese, an infectious diseases veterinarian and Guelph colleague of the speakers Guelph is already downplaying the event’s premise.
“No, government isn't coming after our livestock.
“No, government isn't mandating genetic modification of animals.
“Yes, they did clamp down on untested and illegally marketed supplements (so...we don't like well tested vaccines but want untested supplements? 😹),” wrote Weese in a tweet June 21.
The tweet prompted a reply from @liz_vannes whose account is named “Bring it, Weese!” and whose profile photo is a picture of the event.
“Are you sure about that? Why are two of your colleagues saying so then? Plus Dr. Bridle... 3 against 1. My veterinarian also agrees with what they are saying... Thank you so much for advertising the ad for my event. It's greatly appreciated. 😉”
The speakers are slated to speak in Moose Jaw June 25, Swift Current and Prince Albert June 26, Watson and Porcupine Plain June 27, and Bradenbury and possibly Alameda on June 28.
“In most cases there will be a meal provided if it crosses a meal time, but check upcoming information releases to ensure your location will have food available,” the promotion says.
